Lavrov: Proxy War Through Kyiv, Will Never Defeat Russia.
Lavrov Accuses the West of Waging Proxy War Through Kyiv, Vows Russia Will Not Be Defeated.
By John Anderson, Special Correspondent.
In a strongly worded statement reflecting Moscow’s deepening confrontation with the West, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov accused the United States and its allies of attempting to inflict a “strategic defeat” on Russia by using Ukraine as a geopolitical weapon. The remarks were made during a diplomatic meeting with Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubayev.
“We are witnessing an unprecedented confrontation between Russia and the collective West,” Lavrov declared. “They have once again decided to wage war against us, seeking to deliver a strategic defeat—this time by using the Nazi regime in Kyiv as a battering ram.”
Lavrov’s rhetoric mirrors Moscow’s longstanding narrative that frames the conflict in Ukraine as not merely a regional conflict, but a broader existential struggle between Russia and Western powers. Echoing the defiance that has become characteristic of Russian official statements since the 2022 invasion, Lavrov insisted: “The West has never succeeded in this before, and it will not succeed now.”
He added that Western governments may be “starting to realize” the limits of their strategy. His comments come at a time when Ukraine continues to seek expanded military and financial support from NATO allies, even as fatigue and political division grow within Western capitals.
“Despite sanctions and illegitimate pressure, our cooperation with Kyrgyzstan continues to grow,” Lavrov noted. “Mutual trade is increasing, and our joint work in humanitarian and educational fields is expanding.”
Lavrov’s remarks serve both as a condemnation of Western policies and a reaffirmation of Russia’s intent to deepen ties with nations that remain outside the Euro-Atlantic sphere.

The real challenge ahead will be whether this confrontational posture leads to further isolation or whether Moscow can successfully pivot to strengthen its partnerships outside the Euro-Atlantic sphere, especially as Western unity around Ukraine’s support is showing signs of strain.
